Direct Mail Advertising
Services
Direct mail advertising services are what most people like to call junk mail. Direct mail
advertising is a way that different advertisers contact many possible customers at one time, by sending things
through the mail or post office. This junk mail can include things such as: advertisements, pre-approved credit
card offers, circulars, or any other type of promotional business material that comes through the mail that the
mail box occupant didn't previously ask for or subscribe to. Most of these through the mail advertising services
are addressed to a pre-approved individual, or are circulated throughout neighborhoods by certain companies.
Direct mail advertising has both advantages and disadvantage. An advantage to mail advertising would be people in a
more rural setting who need to drive miles to get to any type of store, find it convenient to know what stores are
having sales, and who has the lowest prices. They can then plan a trip, buy what they need, and not have to worry
about traveling to several different places to find out which store has the best deal. This makes consumers happy
because they will save money, and in an economy like this, everyone wants to save money. An advantage to marketers,
who send out mail advertising, is that mail advertising is the best way to attract new customers or subscribers,
and reach many people at one time.
The biggest disadvantage for direct mail advertising services and promotion is the impact it has on the
environment. The environmental protection agent estimates that 44 percent of junk mail gets thrown away without
ever being read and this estimates about four million tons of wasted paper every year. Out of that 44 percent and
four million tons, only about 32 percent of that gets recycled. Many states offer a program where a person can opt
out on receiving junk mail, and this is great for the environment if one less person chooses not to receive direct
mail.
Direct mail advertising services have both pros and cons, and one may consider the free advertisements right at
ones fingertips the better deal and not care about a few trees. No matter which view point you have, direct mail
has a big impact on society and the economy no matter which way you look at it, and both sides are equally
debatable.
